Day 10-Last day squeeze

Today was my last full day in Haiti and it was Jen's first full day to go around Port Au Prince so we had to fit in a lot. We started our day at Mother Teresa's children's hospital. That was my third time there in these 10 days. Some of the other visitors were confused why I was there and none of my other group was. I got to spend some more time with the lovely little guys I had gotten to know and I also had some play time with another little boy. He was the cutest thing. But I could tell he didn't feel good and it kind of hit him in waves. One second he would smile and laugh for me and the next he was just uncomfortable. But he was good. And he had my heart. Leaving today was sad but I know they are in a good place, somewhere they are cared for and fed and will get some lovin.
Next we went to visit Ken and Andrea at their new clinic/ community center. I fell in love. They have many more rooms. They have space for a couple doctor benches and dentist chairs, they have hired a Haitian dentist full time, they have space for a pharmacy area, and they have a real waiting room. Andrea is working on a wedding dress and clothing boutique ministry along with doing VBS and really any type of education programs and fun community events. I really want to look into interning and working with her for a summer. She is amazing. They are both doing great things in Haiti and have been for a few years now since they moved there to do full time ministry. I pray for God's protection for them as they do his work in Haiti.
After a quick visit with them we headed to Cité Soleil to see Pastor Vincent and see the computer school and classes. Then we piled the kids in the truck to ride with us to their house. They had a bus there but they preferred to ride with us. We squeezed in roughly 15 of us. Hardly legal in the US but we got there safely and the kids had fun.
At the house we did arts and crafts with the kids. They started making fans/ puppets and bracelets. Then I handed out some of the special presents and letters from the last group and then all of them started making things for their friends for me to take back to the US.  They wrote a song for one of the girls. I got bracelets, orgagami flowers and little fans for everyone. They really are a precious group. It was fun to work with them so much this trip, I definitely got a lot closer with them this trip compared to the trip in  January. I definitely felt it as we drove away. But I am happy to know that they are well taken care of and so loved. Huge shout out to MHJ for showing God's love to those guys and giving them a home.
We headed back to Judes after and did a little shopping in the street when we got here because this group didn't have enough time to go out to Petion Ville where we usually shop for souvenirs. I also might have bought a few more things..
It is nice arrive home here at Judes everytime. He is an excellent host. We are lucky to have this connection. That can be Googled and found on trip advisor at Estinfil Guesthouse. Just for anyone that might need it.
I've been working on packing and eating all the food that people bought that I don't want to bring with me. I gave a bunch away to one of our translators and fed them pb&j today but I still have some scraps to get rid of.
Tomorrow our flight is out at 9 something am and we will be in Syracuse by 6:30pm if everything goes smoothly. I am looking forward to my bed. Shoutout  to my Mommy, could you please have that ready for me? Love you!
Love has no borders,
- Rachel Martha

Saying Goodbye Too Soon

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11 Hello Family and Friends, I imagine that anyone reading this is also in the midst of a crazy season, but I wanted to update you on what life looks like right now. As of Monday we made the decision to go home. We were hoping to wait it out, but on Monday the news came that Costa Rica was declaring a state of emergency and closing their borders to all incoming travelers. This has effected us in two ways: 1. We were no longer able to do our border run to Nicaragua or Panama since we would not be able to re-enter the country. 2. There is no way to know if airlines will continue to fly flights out of Costa Rica if no flights are coming in. So with that information the decision was made to send both students and staff home rather than risk being stuck in Costa Rica. Though Costa Rica is...

Counting Every Blessing

Group Photo at Laodicea Hey Hey Hey! It has been a while since I have written an update like this. Life has changed a lot over the past several months. I have sat down to write an update several times, but I have not been fully sure of what I wanted to write. The last time I wrote an update was about a year ago when the decision had been made to leave Costa Rica early at the beginning of the pandemic. It seems unreal that it has been a year. Though there are many difficulties I could list from my own experiences this year, there are also many blessings. So this update is coming at you in the form of a list of blessings:  1. After returning home from Costa Rica I found a job that I was able to work from April to August. I know that many people lost jobs through that time and I was grateful I was able to at least work part-time. 2. Over the summer I was able to travel and visit friends I had not been able to see in a very long time. 3. In August I started my job as a resident ...

Round Two

Hello all, As I mentioned before I am heading back to Costa Rica for a second year as the Female Student Life Coordinator for the GAP year program through Score International. This past year was challenging for sure which made for an excellent learning and growing experience. There were many highs and lows, but the grace of God was ever present. Through the course of these last nine months, we saw the Lord guide and direct 20 students, 4 interns, and 5 staff members closer to himself. I am beyond thankful for the year the Lord gave us and the students He sent to Costa Rica. I am also very excited for this coming year. I know that the Lord is going before us to send the right students and staff to Costa Rica. This year my role will be very much the same as last year. My ministry has been and is two parts. One is focusing on the GAP students. Second, it is leading a group of students to partner with Salva and Veronica in a town called Los Guido where my team is able to h...
