Costa Rica 3.0

My heart sings!

Water you turned into wine, opened the eyes of the blind there's no one like you

Into the darkness you shine out of the ashes we rise there's no one like you

Our God is greater, our God is stronger, God you are higher than any other.

Our God is Healer, Awesome in Power, Our God! Our God!

I had an amazing trip with so many amazing people. I was able to connect with people I never thought I would connect well with and I miss them already. I thank God for the gift that this trip was to my spirit. Everything including the people I was able to meet, the time spent snorkeling in the bay, watching the sunrise and sunset, attempting to surf, and reading on the beach were gifts from God. God truly does open the eyes of the blind and not only once but over and over again. On Monday the guys and ladies split up. The guys headed to volunteer at a local church and helped do some painting and the ladies headed into town to go thrift shopping. We were shopping for 4 families and about 20 children. We were able to buy two or three outfits per child. The next day we were able to go meet the families and take the children the clothes and also take them some beds and bed-frames that the guys were able to set up. I had never seen poverty like that before in Costa Rica. It really made me realize that no matter where you are there are always people who could be ministered to both physically and spiritually.

After we handed out the clothes and beds and finished playing some soccer of course we were able to pray for the families and then headed out to our house in Playa Flamingo. It was absolutely beautiful and was difficult to accept staying in after being to the homes of those who had no beds.

While we were there in our new home for the remainder of the trip we were able to really grow close as a group. That night we began sharing our life stories with each other. I realized you should never assume things about others because you really don't know their story. Even sometimes when you think you understand there really is so much more to a person. I also experienced what it is like to share my own story and have others relate to it and feel with me what I have felt. I believe what I have brought home with me from this trip is healing, rest, understanding, energy, and new perspectives. It was awesome to see God open up our eyes to Himself, poverty, and each other. It was awesome to see the brokenness in our lives and the amazing amounts of strength and courage it takes to share that and begin to heal through it. It was amazing to know that God so longs for our redemption and restoration. He knows each and every part of us, there is no hiding or faking it with Him but he still loves us and longs for us to have freedom and be restored. Praise be to God our Father who opens our eyes, who redeems us and restores us, who raises us up from the ashes, and who is greater and stronger than any other.

Thank you to those who partnered with me in this mission. God used this trip as both a way for us to minister to those in Costa Rica and to our group. God truly answers our prayers. This would not have been possible without you. Thank you for being part of this and if anyone has any questions or wants to hear more feel free to message me.

Love has no borders,

Rachel Martha

I never would have guessed...

Dear Friends and Family, Many of you may know and some   may not so here it is... drum roll please... I am headed back to Costa Rica, and this time it is for two years! This past February, I visited Costa Rica to recruit GAP students for Lancaster Bible College. While I was there I heard about their need for a new Female Student Life Coordinator. I never anticipated this position being available at a time when I would be in a position to take it. While I was in Costa Rica with LBC I was able to speak with the directors of the program who offered me the position. After I returned home I had a lot of praying to do. I took about two weeks to pray and seek good counsel. After considering my options and seeking Godly wisdom I called the director in Costa Rica and officially accepted the position. In this position my primary responsibility will be to build relationships with and disciple the GAP students in the program. We hope to have 20-25 college age st...

Counting Every Blessing

Group Photo at Laodicea Hey Hey Hey! It has been a while since I have written an update like this. Life has changed a lot over the past several months. I have sat down to write an update several times, but I have not been fully sure of what I wanted to write. The last time I wrote an update was about a year ago when the decision had been made to leave Costa Rica early at the beginning of the pandemic. It seems unreal that it has been a year. Though there are many difficulties I could list from my own experiences this year, there are also many blessings. So this update is coming at you in the form of a list of blessings:  1. After returning home from Costa Rica I found a job that I was able to work from April to August. I know that many people lost jobs through that time and I was grateful I was able to at least work part-time. 2. Over the summer I was able to travel and visit friends I had not been able to see in a very long time. 3. In August I started my job as a resident ...

Looking Back and Thinking Forward

Hello Friends and Family! It is that time of year again to make decisions and figure out what next year will look like except... those decisions have already been made for this year... praise God. In August I will be returning to Costa Rica to serve as the Female Student Life Director once again. This year has brought me great joy to serve and disciple students. This year, we have seen 5 of our students commit their lives to Christ and more than that make decisions to re-dedicate themselves to the Lord. In November, nine of our students were baptized. Every day I watch my students discover what it means to die to themselves and choose to live for Jesus instead and to choose to put the needs and desires of others before their own. It meant they needed to choose to serve in their ministries even when they were tired. It meant they they had to choose to work hard in Bible and Spanish classes to the glory of God. It meant that when they were uncomfortable they had to choose an atti...
