Costa Rica 2.5

It's my "3rd" trip to Costa Rica but I'm only halfway through so I figured Costa Rica 2.5 was a good title for this one. God really is just amazing. He has already showed up in ways I never expected and continues to teach me and heal me. I traveled to Costa Rica mostly on my own which was cool to learn to navigate international travel on my own. Tonight will be my 6th night here and today we met up with the Cru team from Texas State University. The first half of the trip was spent in San Jose at the Villa where I lived last year. There I was able to reconnect with friends and ministry leaders from last year and also spend some time connecting with this year's students. I loved getting to know them and talk about life even if it was only for a little while. I was able to explore some new places with the new students and visit some favorite spots with friends from last year. It was awesome to spend time with the leadership team, to see their hearts for the students and the communities they serve. Also to see how much students are growing while they are there and praying with them for the work they are doing.

Today we took a bus from San José to Tamarindo which took about 6 hours and finally arrived around 6:30 at our hotel. We met up with the Cru group and tomorrow we start another adventure. Can't wait to see what God has up His sleeve for this leg of the trip. I'll make sure I let you know.

Love has no borders,
Rachel Martha

Round Two

Hello all, As I mentioned before I am heading back to Costa Rica for a second year as the Female Student Life Coordinator for the GAP year program through Score International. This past year was challenging for sure which made for an excellent learning and growing experience. There were many highs and lows, but the grace of God was ever present. Through the course of these last nine months, we saw the Lord guide and direct 20 students, 4 interns, and 5 staff members closer to himself. I am beyond thankful for the year the Lord gave us and the students He sent to Costa Rica. I am also very excited for this coming year. I know that the Lord is going before us to send the right students and staff to Costa Rica. This year my role will be very much the same as last year. My ministry has been and is two parts. One is focusing on the GAP students. Second, it is leading a group of students to partner with Salva and Veronica in a town called Los Guido where my team is able to h...

Saying Goodbye Too Soon

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11 Hello Family and Friends, I imagine that anyone reading this is also in the midst of a crazy season, but I wanted to update you on what life looks like right now. As of Monday we made the decision to go home. We were hoping to wait it out, but on Monday the news came that Costa Rica was declaring a state of emergency and closing their borders to all incoming travelers. This has effected us in two ways: 1. We were no longer able to do our border run to Nicaragua or Panama since we would not be able to re-enter the country. 2. There is no way to know if airlines will continue to fly flights out of Costa Rica if no flights are coming in. So with that information the decision was made to send both students and staff home rather than risk being stuck in Costa Rica. Though Costa Rica is...

Dream Job

Pc: Abby Shaw Hello everyone! It has been a little over a month since I arrived in Costa Rica to serve as the Female Student Life Director for the GAP program. In some ways being here is still surprising because I never imagined I would have the chance to come live here again. In other ways, living in Costa Rica and in the Villa feels absolutely natural; it feels like I am home. In many ways this is my dream job. Starting from 10th grade when I first traveled to Costa Rica I knew I wanted to spend my life traveling and mentoring students. I had no idea what that would look like or that I would end up in Costa Rica. Then not only am I working at GAP, but, I am also continuing to work for Lancaster Bible College as their International Admissions Counselor. God has been so generous.  Our Leadership Team GAP Students 2018-2019 Pictured above is this year's GAP class. The students have been here for three weeks. In those three weeks they have begun...
