Urban Hope Summer Internship

Friends and family,

Hola, Bonjour, and Hello! I am writing you to tell you of an exciting ministry opportunity the Lord has given me for the upcoming summer and ask you to partner with me in the exciting direction God is taking me.

I am currently a student at Lancaster Bible College, and I am excited about everything God is teaching me during my time here. I have had several opportunities to be involved in ministry throughout this year and last year in Costa Rica. Through these opportunities God has really shown me the need in the inner city for God’s love and compassion. I have a deep burden to help reach out to those in the inner city.

Recently I was accepted to work as an intern at Urban Hope Training Center during the summer of 2017. Through much prayer and guidance I have come to believe that this is where God desires me to be this summer. I can’t wait to see what God is going to do!

What is Urban Hope Training Center?
Urban Hope is located in one of the “rougher” neighborhoods in inner city Philadelphia. Many churches have closed their doors and left the area, but the people still remain. These are people who need to hear about Christ and learn what it mean to have a relationship with God. Urban Hope is a two-part ministry:
1.      To plant churches in the community and disciple believers.
2.       To provide practical ministry experience in the inner city for youth and adult groups to help them learn to live “on mission”.

What is the purpose of the internship?
To train future urban ministry leaders by:
Helping us to develop a heart for the inner city
Training us for ministry in the inner city
Giving us exposure to life in the inner city and to a broad range of ministry opportunities

What does the internship include?
Involvement in ministry to children, teens, and adults
Exposure to different inner city ministries in the Philadelphia area
Training in urban ministry, discipleship, evangelism, and holistic programs

How is the training accomplished?
Urban Hope Training Center hosts weekend ministry teams, weeklong summer teams, and special events for these outside groups. As contacts are made, our church planting team is busy following up with these people through programs, Bible studies and one-on-one discipleship programs. Our Church planting team is comprised of both our staff and new believers from the neighborhood who are being discipled. I will be involved in all of these events, as well as many other activities throughout the summer.

How will I fit into the team?
I will be involved in many different aspects of the training team. I will be working with the children, teen and adult programs that are run through Urban Hope, including Kingdom Kids, R.O.C.K. (a teen program), weekly Celebration Services, Family Groups, and numerous other activities. From these I will have the chance to get experience in many aspects of inner city ministry.

As you know, the need in the inner city is great and I believe that this is where God has called me to spend my summer. I am eager to be in Philadelphia continuing my ministry there and being involved in the training process that will take place.

How can you be involved?
In order to accept this position as an intern for Urban Hope, it is a necessity that I raise $2,100. This will cover housing, salary, transportation, and other expenses. I am now earnestly seeking people who are willing to partner with me in this ministry opportunity. Prayer is such an important part of every ministry that takes place, and it would mean so much to me to know that I have a solid backing of support through prayer. Along with these prayer partners I will need financial partners. I invite you to pray and consider how the Lord would desire for you to be a part of the ministry at Urban Hope Training Center. Feel free to email me at rachelmliddic@gmail.com to be a part of my prayer support team. I will use this as a way to keep in touch with you and let you know what is going on as well as specific requests that might come up. All financial gifts can be mailed to 209 E. Tioga St. Philadelphia, PA 19134. Make checks payable to Urban Hope Training Center and write (Rachel Liddic) on the memo line. All gifts are tax deductible.  If you would like to donate online go to https://cenational.org/give/ and then choose special project and insert (Rachel Liddic).

Thank you for partnering with me in the ministry in Philadelphia.

Love has no borders,

Rachel Martha

Round Two

Hello all, As I mentioned before I am heading back to Costa Rica for a second year as the Female Student Life Coordinator for the GAP year program through Score International. This past year was challenging for sure which made for an excellent learning and growing experience. There were many highs and lows, but the grace of God was ever present. Through the course of these last nine months, we saw the Lord guide and direct 20 students, 4 interns, and 5 staff members closer to himself. I am beyond thankful for the year the Lord gave us and the students He sent to Costa Rica. I am also very excited for this coming year. I know that the Lord is going before us to send the right students and staff to Costa Rica. This year my role will be very much the same as last year. My ministry has been and is two parts. One is focusing on the GAP students. Second, it is leading a group of students to partner with Salva and Veronica in a town called Los Guido where my team is able to h...

Saying Goodbye Too Soon

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11 Hello Family and Friends, I imagine that anyone reading this is also in the midst of a crazy season, but I wanted to update you on what life looks like right now. As of Monday we made the decision to go home. We were hoping to wait it out, but on Monday the news came that Costa Rica was declaring a state of emergency and closing their borders to all incoming travelers. This has effected us in two ways: 1. We were no longer able to do our border run to Nicaragua or Panama since we would not be able to re-enter the country. 2. There is no way to know if airlines will continue to fly flights out of Costa Rica if no flights are coming in. So with that information the decision was made to send both students and staff home rather than risk being stuck in Costa Rica. Though Costa Rica is...

Costa Rica Life Update

Hello! It has been a while since I have written an update! So here is a brief overview of the past few months of life here in Costa Rica! October - I taught a 12 hour class on apologetics with a focus on the purpose and application of the practice for believers. We went to Nicaragua to renew our passports and we were able to stay in Santa Rosa with a couple of SCORE missionary families. While we were there we went to La Fortuna which is the town next to the Arenal Volcano and spent one day at the hot springs. I also had the opportunity to visit one of our other ministry sites and stay with the host family in Turrialba. We had our annual fall fest and as always we like to make things into a competition. This year students made music videos and competed in some other games. Through the month we had three other classes: Applied Hermeneutics, Will of God, and Doctrine of Salvation. November - My ministry group was able to use money that was donated by Three Pines Community Church to...
