I want to share with you a ministry opportunity that
God has presented to me. I have recently been invited to participate in an
international mission to Costa Rica this January with Cru. Cru is an
organization that has been working with college students since 1951. I would be
traveling with a group from Texas State University. I will be traveling with 15 other
students and Cru staff members where I will be serving the poor, growing in my
Christian faith and character, and sharing God’s love with others. We will spend
the first part of the trip helping with various humanitarian needs. Previously
this group went to Costa Rica and were able to paint a local church and
volunteer there. This trip our team leader is developing another project with
this church in order to continue to build this relationship. The ministry will
likely address a physical need in the area in order that we might continue to
build relationships and share the gospel in this community. During the second
part of the trip, we will be doing leadership development activities with our
team. This part of the trip is aimed at developing discipleship training and
team building within the group. This will be an excellent opportunity for me to
grow as a leader and in Christ-like character.
I studied abroad in Costa Rica for a year previously
with SCORE International in the GAP year program. It was through this
experience that I made the connection with Cru in Texas. I have studied the
language and the culture, and I feel prepared to be part of this trip. This is
a great opportunity to go back and serve there again. Currently I am attending
Lancaster Bible College. I am majoring in student ministries and intercultural
studies. I have been attending Calvary Church and New Life church (a
multi-cultural church in Lancaster City) since moving here in August. I
currently serve at Calvary Church as a leader in the high school student
groups. God has worked a lot out in my life that I am here now studying in
these areas. This missions outreach is an amazing opportunity for me to be able
to take what God has taught me and weave it into this experience. I would be
able to use what I have been learning in my classes both with the students I am
traveling with and with those whom we meet in Costa Rica. Long term I believe God
is calling me to this type of ministry. International missions has been
something God has put on my heart for about 4 years now. Within the last couple
years I have come to realize that God is calling me to also work with youth. Overall
I am seeking God in exactly what His will is for me but I do believe it will
involve local and global missions as I also work with teens and young adults. I
feel this trip is an outreach where I can see those two things come together
and where God can use me in an area I feel that I have been preparing for.
While God has opened up this door for me to develop a
greater heart of compassion for His people and serve His people, I would
greatly appreciate it if you were able to share in this compassion in several
ways. First, could you pray for me? We will need prayers that God will prepare
us for our team for this trip, bless our efforts as we minister to the people
and develop our hearts for God.
Second, I need a team of financial supporters to
invest in this mission. In order to make this possible I need a total
of $1300 which covers airfare, supplies, and all other expenses for the
duration of the project. I need to have fully raised the support by December 31st.
Would you prayerfully consider joining my team by giving a gift towards my
mission trip? If so lead by God to support me in this way the easiest way to
give would be at: https://give.cru.org/0667015?q=0667015
Then click on give a gift, and go to the add comments
for donation services and put my name, Rachel Liddic, in the comments box. The
organization is Cru but our group name is Texas State Parthenon. Our donor
number is #0667015.
I really appreciate your time taken to consider
joining my team to help me grow in my faith as I serve our Lord.
-Your sister in Christ,
Rachel Liddic
