Sing to the Lord

I want to share with you a ministry opportunity that God has presented to me. I have recently been invited to participate in an international mission to Costa Rica this January with Cru. Cru is an organization that has been working with college students since 1951. I would be traveling with a group from Texas State University. I will be traveling with 15 other students and Cru staff members where I will be serving the poor, growing in my Christian faith and character, and sharing God’s love with others. We will spend the first part of the trip helping with various humanitarian needs. Previously this group went to Costa Rica and were able to paint a local church and volunteer there. This trip our team leader is developing another project with this church in order to continue to build this relationship. The ministry will likely address a physical need in the area in order that we might continue to build relationships and share the gospel in this community. During the second part of the trip, we will be doing leadership development activities with our team. This part of the trip is aimed at developing discipleship training and team building within the group. This will be an excellent opportunity for me to grow as a leader and in Christ-like character.

I studied abroad in Costa Rica for a year previously with SCORE International in the GAP year program. It was through this experience that I made the connection with Cru in Texas. I have studied the language and the culture, and I feel prepared to be part of this trip. This is a great opportunity to go back and serve there again. Currently I am attending Lancaster Bible College. I am majoring in student ministries and intercultural studies. I have been attending Calvary Church and New Life church (a multi-cultural church in Lancaster City) since moving here in August. I currently serve at Calvary Church as a leader in the high school student groups. God has worked a lot out in my life that I am here now studying in these areas. This missions outreach is an amazing opportunity for me to be able to take what God has taught me and weave it into this experience. I would be able to use what I have been learning in my classes both with the students I am traveling with and with those whom we meet in Costa Rica. Long term I believe God is calling me to this type of ministry. International missions has been something God has put on my heart for about 4 years now. Within the last couple years I have come to realize that God is calling me to also work with youth. Overall I am seeking God in exactly what His will is for me but I do believe it will involve local and global missions as I also work with teens and young adults. I feel this trip is an outreach where I can see those two things come together and where God can use me in an area I feel that I have been preparing for.

While God has opened up this door for me to develop a greater heart of compassion for His people and serve His people, I would greatly appreciate it if you were able to share in this compassion in several ways. First, could you pray for me? We will need prayers that God will prepare us for our team for this trip, bless our efforts as we minister to the people and develop our hearts for God.
Second, I need a team of financial supporters to invest in this mission. In order to make this possible I need a total of $1300 which covers airfare, supplies, and all other expenses for the duration of the project. I need to have fully raised the support by December 31st. Would you prayerfully consider joining my team by giving a gift towards my mission trip? If so lead by God to support me in this way the easiest way to give would be at: https://give.cru.org/0667015?q=0667015
Then click on give a gift, and go to the add comments for donation services and put my name, Rachel Liddic, in the comments box. The organization is Cru but our group name is Texas State Parthenon. Our donor number is #0667015.
I really appreciate your time taken to consider joining my team to help me grow in my faith as I serve our Lord.

-Your sister in Christ,

I never would have guessed...

Dear Friends and Family, Many of you may know and some   may not so here it is... drum roll please... I am headed back to Costa Rica, and this time it is for two years! This past February, I visited Costa Rica to recruit GAP students for Lancaster Bible College. While I was there I heard about their need for a new Female Student Life Coordinator. I never anticipated this position being available at a time when I would be in a position to take it. While I was in Costa Rica with LBC I was able to speak with the directors of the program who offered me the position. After I returned home I had a lot of praying to do. I took about two weeks to pray and seek good counsel. After considering my options and seeking Godly wisdom I called the director in Costa Rica and officially accepted the position. In this position my primary responsibility will be to build relationships with and disciple the GAP students in the program. We hope to have 20-25 college age st...

Counting Every Blessing

Group Photo at Laodicea Hey Hey Hey! It has been a while since I have written an update like this. Life has changed a lot over the past several months. I have sat down to write an update several times, but I have not been fully sure of what I wanted to write. The last time I wrote an update was about a year ago when the decision had been made to leave Costa Rica early at the beginning of the pandemic. It seems unreal that it has been a year. Though there are many difficulties I could list from my own experiences this year, there are also many blessings. So this update is coming at you in the form of a list of blessings:  1. After returning home from Costa Rica I found a job that I was able to work from April to August. I know that many people lost jobs through that time and I was grateful I was able to at least work part-time. 2. Over the summer I was able to travel and visit friends I had not been able to see in a very long time. 3. In August I started my job as a resident ...

Looking Back and Thinking Forward

Hello Friends and Family! It is that time of year again to make decisions and figure out what next year will look like except... those decisions have already been made for this year... praise God. In August I will be returning to Costa Rica to serve as the Female Student Life Director once again. This year has brought me great joy to serve and disciple students. This year, we have seen 5 of our students commit their lives to Christ and more than that make decisions to re-dedicate themselves to the Lord. In November, nine of our students were baptized. Every day I watch my students discover what it means to die to themselves and choose to live for Jesus instead and to choose to put the needs and desires of others before their own. It meant they needed to choose to serve in their ministries even when they were tired. It meant they they had to choose to work hard in Bible and Spanish classes to the glory of God. It meant that when they were uncomfortable they had to choose an atti...
